Thermal, which was under the influence of different cultures in the past, attracted a lot of attention and gained importance especially during the Romans period. B.C. Thermal spas, which are known to have emerged as a result of a great earthquake in 2000, have been shown as the power and strength baths in PYTHIA THERMA _Pythia since the 6th century. The reason for this was that this place was thought to belong to an underground god due to the steam and hot water coming out of the earth's crevices. Especially the Elixir of Life hot spring baths, which replace the youth vaccine, were first built by King Constantine and restored during the time of Justinian.
The hot springs gained importance again during the reign of Sultan Abdulhamid and took their final form during the reign of the Great Leader Atatürk. Atatürk attached great importance to Termal, often came to Termal to rest and spent a long time there. Thermal has maintained its importance as a health and recreation center in every period of its history. During the Ottoman period, the hot spring waters were examined by the Society of Medicine in 1892, and when it was understood that the waters were equal to the waters of Aix Les-Bains, a hotel and a bath were built here. The works started with Atatürk's order for excavation in 1932 included various votive steles, tombstones, a church and a cloister, Byzantine Emperor II. Columns bearing the monogram of Justinian (565-578 AD) were found.
There are rumors that the church and the vestibule were used as a place of confession at that time, and that the patients slept here to receive news of the future. Hearing the slightest whisper from the other side of the hall sheds light on these rumors. It is thought that the two tombstones found at the door of the church may belong to the Ayazma of the Beş Melek Church.
Kurşunlu Hamam;
It was built 16 centuries ago by the Byzantine Empire Justinian. Kurşunlu Hamam, which was buried in the ground over time due to disasters and wars, was repaired in 1990 by the order of the Ottoman Sultan Abdülhamit. Since the top of the bath is covered with lead, it was named Kurşunlu Hamam. There is an inscription written in Ottoman on marble on the exterior of the bathroom.
Valide Hamam was built with 6 domes during the reign of Byzantine King Constantine. It still does not have 3 domes. It was repaired by Sultan Mecid during the Ottoman period, and since her mother was treated here, it was named Valide Hamam. There is an Ottoman inscription on marble in the steam room section of the bathroom. In addition, in front of the Sycamore Hotel, the Sycamore tree, known as the Eastern Sycamore, has been registered as a Memorial Tree.
